As we all know brilliant filmmaker Spike Lee named his production company 40 Acres And A Mule Filmworks, which is attached at the hip to a piece of history that identifies how Black men, women, and children got shafted by the American Government after the Civil War. In 1865, right here in Savannah, Ga 20 African American ministers met with General William T. Sherman to negotiate economics for the Black Community. As a result of that meeting, 4 million newly freed slaves had been promised this nice slice of the economic pie. However, after the death of President Abraham Lincoln it was President Andrew Johnson that destroyed all hopes of our Black great-great-grandparents getting their 40 Acres And A Mule. This was the deliberate sabotage of an entire people. On March 4, 2011 in Savannah, Ga the Georgia Historical Society and others unveiled a historical marker commemorating the 40 Acres And A Mule broken promise. When I learned of this event I quickly got my news gear together and traveled to Savannah to capture this historic event on film. I was among several other journalists, writers, and news teams that also showed up to cover the unveiling. I even managed to conduct a live-on-the-scene interview with one of key speakers--Mrs. Hermina Glass-Hill, Associate Director of a unique project--African Americans In The Civil War Era. She gave a powerful and memorable presentation, linking pop-culture like Brother Spike Lee to our "40 Acres and a Mule History." (That interview is pictured below). I knew that my reasons and passion for being there went much deeper than just "covering another story." For me this event highlights a point in our history that has been nearly forgotten by the mainstream. But how can we forget this broken promise that carries with it the blood, sweat, tears, and dreams of over 4 million of our people? I commend Brother Spike Lee for not forgetting about this moment not only in our Black History but also in America's History for which Yahweh Elohim, our true Heavenly Father, will make her atone. Spike Lee did his part to help keep this historical episode alive within the memory of the Black Community. Every time we see one of his films we can't help but to see that famous Spike Lee brand--"40 Acres And A Mule." Check this out. Is it just that I'm crazy or is a sign from above? I want you to help me out here. Like I said, I covered the entire ceremony on March 4, 2011. I wrote my article, named it "40 Acres and a Mule Historical Marker Unveiled," and two African American newspapers picked it up (The Savannah Herald and The Savannah Tribune). The article appeared in both newspapers on March 9, 2011. The Savannah Herald ran the article on the front page, and to the left of my front page article was an article with this headline: "Savannah States SGA Presents Spike Lee." STOP THE **@** PRESS! [Click here to read it.] You mean to tell me that on the very day that my 40 Acres and a Mule article was published was also the same day that Spike-the man-Lee was announced to arrive to Savannah on March 22, 2011, which is also in the very same month that the 40 Acres And A Mule Marker was unveiled [March 4, 2011]. Coincidence? Help me out here good people. I'm I crazy or is this divine providence moving? Right now I'm thinking that since Brother Spike Lee is already being manuvered to come to Savannah at this hour by Father Yahweh, I'm thinking that we should have another ceremony with Brother Spike Lee at the 40 Acres and a Mule Maker. Perhaps we should have our people contact Spike Lee's people. Holla back and tell me what you think. To see how my article and the Spike Lee article, both speaking of 40 Acres and a Mule, line-up in perfect harmony click here: 40 Acres and a Mule. I dont think you are crazy. Infact I think a higher power is at work and we know that is yah telling us it is time.I enjoyed the article and I always wanted to know more about this time in history and why the school system never really talked more about this historical event and how it could have altered american history if blacks were given an fair share and change to make better lives after slavery. I feel since this event really took place in Savannah I think the school system here should focus on this in all history classes. I think about how things would have been different for the former slaves with 40 acres and mule. Future generations would have been better off today than we are now. I have to say people like Spike Lee keep these very important events in our fore front so we dont ever forget and we should not want to forget. Keep hope alive ! I am very proud of your articles keep up the good work.

Why are we as a people who even today are taken aback by the systematic racists actions or words meted out by white men toward any one who is a non-white. We need to thank God as a nation that this generation which shows no fear, does not strike at the whites as several black sects did in the sixties, seventies, and eighties.
